Four men posing as sadhus were arrested from Dakshineswar in connection with a gold fraud case reported from Howrah. The accused allegedly visited the home of Pintu Sharma at Rameshwar Malia First Bye Lane under Howrah police station limits and convinced his wife to hand over gold ornaments by claiming they had powers to double them. The complainant stated that the accused took lockets and two mangalsutras and left.
Later, Sharma learned that his neighbour Preeti Kumari was also targeted in a similar manner by the same individuals. Based on the complaint, police launched a probe and examined CCTV footage from the area. Within hours, they identified and tracked the suspects to the Dakshineswar area of Kolkata.
The four accused were arrested, and the stolen gold ornaments were recovered from their possession. Police have initiated further inquiry to verify the identities of the accused and to determine if they were involved in other similar incidents.
